Behavioral Management

Behavioral ManagementMy experience with behavior management spans from young children to mature adults. Some examples of behaviors I have managed include:

  • Running
  • Dropping
  • Work avoidance
  • Self-injurious behaviors
  • Aggressive behaviors (i.e., hitting, biting)

Behavioral situations can arise quickly. They must be handled with care and compassion. I’m vehemently against “bribery” as a way of managing behaviors. I set expectations for each student according to their abilities.

By being proactive, perceptive and establishing clear expectations and consequences, I’ve been able to prevent many behaviors before they happen and lessen their impact when they do.

In addition, through consistency and positive reinforcement, many children I’ve worked with have learned how to overcome certain behaviors altogether.
